Tolt-MacDonald Park Carnation, King Co. · ~45 min E

Top overall pick. The cleanest match for our group size in Western WA. Six canvas yurts across a 500-foot suspension bridge (kids will lose their minds) plus group tent sites on the other side — whole family on one property, 45 min from Seattle.

Why it works

Book 2–3 yurts + 1 group tent site and everyone's sleeping arrangement is covered. Snoqualmie River runs through the property, on-site hiking, quick drive to Snoqualmie Falls. Yurts have bunks, heat, electricity, deck, fire ring.

Trade-offs

Gear has to cross the suspension bridge to get to the yurts (fun but real). No pets. No kitchens in yurts; cooking is outdoors. Very popular — book fast.

Kayak Point Regional Park Stanwood, Snohomish Co. · ~75 min N

Premium Puget Sound experience. Ten yurts in a dedicated "Yurt Village" plus 30 partial-utility campsites — waterfront on the Salish Sea with a beach, fishing pier, and tidepools.

Why it works

2–3 yurts (sleep 5 each) for anyone wanting solid walls; tent sites nearby for everyone else. Yurts have electric outlets, skylights, interior lighting, lockable doors, futon + bunk, outside deck with picnic table + fire ring. One of the most scenic county parks in the region.

Trade-offs

Tents and pets are prohibited inside the yurt village (tent-campers in the main campground nearby, still same property). No cooking inside yurts. 2-night minimum; weekend bookings require Fri + Sat.

Silver Lake Park Maple Falls, Whatcom Co. · ~2 hrs N

Best cabin + group-camp hybrid. Six lakefront cabins with actual kitchens (fridge, stove, sink, propane fireplace) — the cook(s) in the family aren't stuck over a camp stove. Separate group camp if we want to add more family on short notice.

Why it works

Most versatile option for a mixed-comfort group. Lake Whatcom swimming, paddling, fishing. 40 min from Mt. Baker Highway alpine hiking, reasonable Bellingham day trip. Kitchen amenity alone sets it apart from every WA State Park yurt.

Trade-offs

Group camp rate is steep ($362–385/night). 3 individual cabins × ~$130/night × 4 nights ≈ $1,560 — right at budget ceiling. Group camp is phone-only at 360-778-5850.

Ike Kinswa State Park Silver Creek, Lewis Co. · ~2 hrs S

Best budget champion. Nine cabins on one property, each sleeping 5. Book 3–4 cabins and cover 15+ people easily with room for tents. Realistic peak rates $75–90/night — likely our cheapest option.

Why it works

Lake Mayfield (swim/boat/fish), old-growth forest, quiet. Electric heat + lights in cabins, picnic table + fire pit outside. Less crowded than marquee coastal parks — good odds of actually getting the dates we want.

Trade-offs

Furthest-south pick (2-hour drive). No kitchens. Shared bathhouse. Less dramatic scenery than coastal or mountain options — the "pragmatic and cheap" pick, not the Instagram pick.
